The Round Up: Tuesday 6th July 2021

We talk to Gráinne McKeever, Professor of Law and Social Justice at Ulster University about the current review of the Discretionary Support Scheme to see if it is fit for purpose.

Heavy Menstrual Bleeding (HMB) affects one in three women but 63% feel there is a stigma attached to having the condition, although 80% feel it should be discussed more openly, according to Bayer. However, with HMB difficult to define, 64% accept it as a ‘normal part of life’ while 43% seek information online rather than going to see their GP, with almost a quarter avoiding a doctor’s visit because of embarrassment and stigma.

Pauline Carville talks Dr Larisa Corda, women’s health and fertility doctor, who offers advice on the condition which is difficult to define but 59% of women think they either have HMB or have had it.
