Purchase scams are among the most prevalent online scams with fraudsters selling non-existent, poor quality or counterfeit products at discounted prices to attract buyers, coaxing the victim into purchases but for products which do not exist or disappoint when they arrive. With 24% of us using social media and auction sites to buy their presents this year, according to Nationwide, we need to be aware of the risks with half of us set to purchase an item based on a positive review or testimonial which can be easily faked.
