Collapse The Box: RUA Brian Ballard

Welcome to another in the dedicated series of opportunities recorded by Northern Visions TV Collapse the Box, and reflect upon the successful 142nd Annual Royal Ulster Academy Exhibition at The Ulster Museum, Belfast.

Join us as we delve deep and explore the work of internationally renowned Senior Royal Ulster Academician artist, Brian Ballard, in conversation with Noelle McAlinden.

An Artist best known for his contemporary treatment of the traditional genres of the still life, the nude and the landscape, and his distinctive use of bold yet evocative colour, he works mainly in his home town of Belfast and on Inishfree Island off the coast of Donegal.

Together they reflect upon what inspires his passion for painting and his discipline in painting plein air. We discuss the significance of colour in his work, his preference for increasing the scale of his paintings and the skills of working fast outdoors to capture the light and colour between showers.

An artist who embraces as many opportunities as possible of being active and outdoors, he reflects upon the joy he got in giving his art away recently in random locations across the cities of Derry & Belfast.

We discuss his aspirations for a future solo show with work of monumental scale not seen in public before.

Thank you to Dean Hagan & Northern Visions TV for filming, Noelle Mc Alinden, the Royal Ulster Academy and to the Ulster Museum Belfast.
