Kenya
Community Project (66 minutes)
In 1995, Janet Wilson fulfilled her lifelong dream of
traveling to Kenya. While delighting at the busy life of Nairobi city, she
discovered another side of Kenya where large slums existed and social
deprivation was rife. Along with colleague, Catherine Gleave, she founded the
Kenya Community Project which has successfully organized sustainable initiatives
in the region. Many members of the community in Kenya have benefited from the
tireless work of Janet and Catherine, and the projects have grown ever since,
with more and more people wanting to contribute. Thanks to the generosity of
Northern Irish people, Janet is able to tell us about many of the heart-warming
and inspiring success stories of the Kenya Community Project.
The
George Best Memorial Trust (10 minutes)
Fans of George Best are being given an opportunity to
contribute towards a lasting memorial to their late hero in his home town of
Belfast. Plans for a statue in Belfast City Centre were unveiled by the
recently established George Best Memorial Trust, of which Northern Ireland star
David Healy is a patron. Jim Boyce, President of the Irish Football
Association, and Lawrie Sanchez, Northern Ireland Manager, both express their
views of this unique initiative and talk about their memories of George Best.

The Jams - BelFEST special' (17
minutes)
This edition of KOTJ bring you music from a night of
NIMIC's recent BelFEST Festival, recorded live at the Empire Bar. The bands
include Heyday and Superfreakz who are some of the best new bands on the local
scene.
No Mean City (16 minutes)
A permanent photographic exhibition has been
commissioned by Belfast City Council to mark the centenary of the City Hall,
the official opening of the city’s civic centre piece in 1906. It profiles more
than 50 of Belfast's most celebrated citizens, past and present. The exhibition
features personalities from backgrounds as diverse as football and music,
literature and snooker, drama and medicine, business and engineering and was
photographed by Belfast-born Michael Donald, who talks about his unique
challenge of getting all the photos in 7 weeks!
NICVA
Annual Conference - "What's on your Horizon?" (17 minutes)
A conference at NICVA has considered the implications
for the sector in an era when, increasingly, voluntary organisations are
delivering Public Services.
Entitled 'What's on your Horizon?' the conference was
designed to tease out the sector's attitude to the prospect of continued
sectoral provision of public services. Some challenging reviews and robust
discussions were offered on the day. The conference, introduced by Seamus
McAleavey, NICVA's Chief Executive, heard from Stuart Etherington, the chief
executive of England's National Council for Voluntary Organisations, from Ryan
Sampson of Age Concern England, and from Barnardo's Northern Ireland's deputy
director, Maurice Leeson.

Walkabout (25 minutes)
Fancy a pleasant stroll around Belfast? Join the Civic
Trust’s Patricia Moorhead on a tour of Belfast’s contemporary architecture, as
part of Architecture Week.

Coffee for the masses (15
minutes)
A film by Stephen Carroll
Documentary exploring the growth in the popularity of coffee shops in
Belfast.
The Beat
Winter Carnival (17 minutes)
The Beat Initiative held their winter carnival in
Belfast city centre on December 9th 2006. This year’s theme was
Pirates of the Lagan. NvTv goes along to see some of the preparations and then
it’s off to the parade!

Moments:
The Great Indian Rope Trick -
presented by Magician Isamudin (8
minutes)
NvTv and Belfast Community Circus
present some classic clips of street entertainment from the Festival of
Fools. In this Magic Moment, Magician
Isamudin performs the Great Indian Rope Trick for the first time ever in the UK
or Ireland! Isamudin is a legend amongst the magic fraternity having been voted amongst the top twenty
magicians of all time. All the way from India especially for the Festival of
Fools, he amuses, and astounds with his magic.

A Visit
to the War Memorial Museum (17 minutes)

A tour of this museum, which highlights the human
experience of World War II with many personal items, letters and diaries, a
Bakelite radio a lifeline for the
news and a discussion of the Belfast
Blitz. During World War Two Belfast was second only to London in being
devastated by German bombing raids. Whole streets of Belfast were bombed in the
Blitz, including the area of Cathedral Quarter where the museum is located.

Ireland Launch (12 minutes)
Coverage of the National Foundation for Teaching
Entrepreneurship Ireland's Launch of its scheme in Northern Ireland. Includes
interviews with representatives from NFTE, as well as students who took part in
the scheme last year and the US Consulate who hosted the event here in Belfast.
A look at
the CS Lewis Festival 2006 (30
minutes)
This year's CS Lewis Festival highlights the art of
storytelling, with the hope of inspiring future generations of writers from
Belfast. Chloe Lees, of the Midnight Storytellers, delights children and adults
with her stories from lands far, far away!
Living
Over The Shop (30 minutes)
The aim of the LOTS scheme is to bring housing back to
the city centre in order to have a major impact on regeneration. At the same
time ˜Living Over The Shop" helps to meet the housing needs of people and
brings the city back to life. We look closely at this scheme and see how it is
affecting Lisburn city centre for the better.

WAVE (30 minutes)
WAVE is a cross community, voluntary organisation to
support people bereaved of a spouse, and children traumatised as a result of
violence in Northern Ireland. In this programme NvTv talks to some of the main
people involved in the organisation including Margaret McKinney who tell us
about how WAVE helped her recover the body of her son, who was murdered during
the troubles.

Designed by Clough William Ellis, this is an
attractive, white painted church with ancillary buildings. Come and see inside
this fascinating church as part of the European Heritage Open Days.

hosted a celebration and exploration of sustainable alternatives to the throw

AU magazine brings us one of the most popular
alternative bands in the UK at the moment - The Young Knives. The band are
regulars on the likes of MTV2 and have had great reviews for their debut album
'Voices of Animals and Men' in all the major magazines. They perform a special
acoustic set for us in the NvTv studio.

Did you know that the first public museum in Ireland
was opened in Belfast? Caroline Boyle visits The Old Museum Arts Centre, right
in the heart of Belfast City Centre. Anne McReynolds, Director of the OMAC
tells Caroline what it’s like to work in such a historic and thought provoking
building she is joined by Architectural Historian Paul Larmour who gives us the
background info on this wonderful and evocative building. The programme looks
at the restoration and continued preservation of the site as a public arts
facility for Belfast, continuing in the tradition of its original use.
Footprints
Women’s Centre (16 minutes)
Portrait of the centre which was established after
women from the Poleglass estate got together in the late eighties, realised
their unique needs and their combined strength, and founded Footprints. Today
the Centre's purpose-built premises in Colinmill, Poleglass is home to
education and self-development work, day care and after schools facilities, a
café and drop-in, and a lot of lively women.

A showcase of musicians from all around the world who have come to live
in Northern Ireland. The event, to be headlined by Aziz Ibrahim (Stone Roses),
African drumming, blues from Poland, chill-out sounds from the Caribbean and
some homegrown Irish folk! A true melting pot of styles and cultures put
together for your entertainment.

Not Flats (Protest Rally) (25 minutes)
On the15th of December 2006 a Protest Rally took place
at the Donegall Street/Carrick Hill car park against the proposed apartments
that will include an eleven storey tower block. The Protest hoped to highlight
the overall Inequality in Housing for Nationalists of North Belfast.
